Do you think that Microsoft will someday bring the full DotNet development environment (Visual Studio, Windows Phone Emulator)to Mac/Linux like it happened with ASP.NET?

For Mac and Linux, VS Code is the code editor. The developers are committed in making ASP.NET 5 work great on Mac and Linux, in production. It is not even that you will get more, but to be clear, there are many more available for your choice. The .Net Developers can be an expert for business site and development.

The full .Net development environment
1.    There is not much greater thing of achievement if they put full .Net development environment to another OSes. Some of their technologies are quiet platform specific, such as Winform. And some other Operating system already has the similar technology, such as GTK on Linux. It will take more effort but it will work for sure.

2.    Before the time that Microsoft will bring the full .Net development environment to Mac/ Linux, web based coding editor like your development environment, in the cloud will take over and you may not require Visual Studio at all. Though Visual Studio Online has few things, but there is good need for online VS Kind of .Net editor.

3.    It is always about financial strides for many companies if not all, to know how to get the market “going”. Recently, Microsoft released VS Code, an open-source and multi-platform scaffolding/ project management IDE with the only catch that you would have to have a project running already and it would take it up from there.

4.    First you need to re-architecture it and create better API (simpler and without COMs) at times you are not required to port Visual Studio one-to-one on Linux and Mac. It is functionally very good but API is terrible. VS is a great tool, but too heavy weight sometimes.
