1. Azure is neither cheaper nor a good alternative to AWS. For customers using Azure can be a logical step considering:
• That they operate Microsoft technology on site in many different forms, desktops, database, directory, etc.
• Microsoft develops many of the products they offer in their cloud, the OS, the SQL platform, etched. This makes the integration seamless.
• People who know the Microsoft stack can make an easier transition to Azure.
2. Azure is coming from an experimental developer platform now re-architecting the platform to infrastructure services. That will take years to become stable and more importantly, a trustworthy platform.
3. Performance, scalability and availability are very poor with Azure. That is why real cloud applications run on AWS. Research the major apps like Netflix, Spotify, Airbnb or even the major global enterprises with their LOB’s and you will learn that the true cloud platform features necessary to run these are absent in Azure.
4. Customers running on Azure are few with typical lift-and-shift workloads coming from on-premises VM’s into Azure. But most Microsoft customers go back to on-premises as lift-and-shift is hardly ever cost efficient. Running your apps in Azure is like flying or driving blind; you have no insight into what is happening, who is doing what, etc. No auditing, no reporting for compliance reasons, no Identity and access management. There is nothing to use for real production. So customers investing the three platforms mentioned will very quickly conclude that only AWS is ready for prime time.
5. There are many companies that host .Net applications and want to host in a Microsoft Cloud. AFAIK, Microsoft Cloud and Azure are fairlyreasonable- especially for developers / ISV with the BizSpark program which gives you up to $ 120k of Azure for free.
6. Few optimum reason for selecting Azure over AWS or Cloud is:
• Legacy
• Dealing with already accustomed technology
• Hybrid cloud option
7. Microsoft has prevailing relations with many companies, big & small, which benefits. Microsoft enters into Business Associate Agreement (BBA) which companies trying to move to the cloud. Microsoft cloud has HIPAA complaint features and is a FedRAMP complaint. These features promote Azure over AWS and attract customers.
It is not because of price or choice, but Microsoft sells Azure in EA’s that makes customers attracted towards it. Other reasons are legacy and its capability to deal with accustomed technology towards work performance. Azure application development services have occupied a good place in the market, so it most preferred over AWS or Cloud instead of price hike.
