Security mainly lies with the user. You are fairly unlikely to have yourself compromised if you are installing only big name trusted applications like Chrome, Twitter, Spotify, etc. but the problem tends to arise when you install other software. iOS is generally more secure.

However, Android gives users and applications more power, and this leads to more vulnerability as well. The iOS app development companies and android app development companies are always on the effort towards increasing security to their respective site.

Android or iOS app security

1.    Both Android or iOS app have their own methods to implement security. Android believes in opening up and trusting the users to know what they are doing; while iOS believes in controlling everything.

2.    Android rely on an open system in which each app declares what they are going to do when installed. They require permission before installations, but how many users generally mind that? Apps do access your contacts, images, browser history and these are all there in the permissions. Do not install the app unless you trust the publisher. Apart from that, never try to install any app outside the play store, unless you have an experience of what you are doing.

3.    Google closely monitor all the aps and have a kill switch which can automatically evaporate all malicious apps in seconds. It can even uninstall the app from your device just by a single command.

4.    In iOS, Apple controls everything and they believe in checking before allowing the app to publish. It takes at least 1 to 2 weeks before your apps can get published. That is really bad for developers, but good for users. However, most of the times apps get rejected for branding issues. So, you must assure that your application is not at all vulnerable. Always install from the official app store and that would work fine.

5.    From Malware point of view, Android or iOS has got too many malwares, according to statistics user downloaded one harmful app more than 260,000 times before the Google removed it from the app market.  It’s safe to assume that since Apple does not make APIs available to developers, the iOS operating system has fewer Malwares/vulnerabilities.

Since Apple is only the manufacturer for iOS so they control device security in best possible way, on the other hand Android has multiple device manufacturers so very difficult to manage device security. Between iOS and Android, iOS is more secure than android with its application sandboxing, extensibility which any of these features isn’t available on Android.
