Microsoft open-sourcing .Net
1. The main benefit of open source over closed source software is the availability and performance of a large number of developers and testers compared with that of the closed source software. In this way, the software can be more sophisticated with the combined efforts of those developers and testers. It will always be beneficial to be the user of that software.
2. The closed source software generally takes more time to resolve a bug or implementation feature request. Whereas, in open source software you can add the solution for the bug or implement a feature, which is very helpful for a developer.
4. .Net source code is available for number of ages. They move their code base to GitHub and they are accepting push requests. Actually, Microsoft has begun open-sourcing a lot of stuff, not just .Net. They have also started providing Windows Phone and other embedded versions of Windows at much cheaper prices, in hopes of at least making a dent on Linux there.
